Women of the Padaung tribe in Burma wear heavy brass rings around their necks! Starting at an early age with 5 rings, women gradually stretch their necks up to 15 inches long by adding a ring annually until they reach 25 rings! The brass neck rings are worn for life and are only removed if a woman has committed adultery. Removal of the rings can be equivalent to the death sentence, because over a long time, the neck muscles atrophy and can no longer support the women's head without the brass rings.
